‘We know what we’re doing’ - Crawley Town boss backs his team's style of football after draw against play-off rivals

Emile Acquah scored first for Barrow with a header into the bottom corner before Danilo Orsi stepped up and slotted away a penalty for his 20th goal of the season to level things up.

When asked about the game, Lindsey said: “I think we have done everything possible to win a game of football tonight, I think we’ve played really well. We played against a really strong defensive unit which is really hard to break down.

“Everything is positive in that dressing room now because I’m really happy with the way we played tonight I think we showed real character to win a game of football against a good side.”

There were some impressive performances for some players in red last night, and Lindsey picked out young wingers Ade Adeyemo and Harry Forster as his stand-out picks.

He said: “I though the two wide lads were outstanding today, I thought they caused a lot of problems down the flanks.

“I thought Ade was brilliant, obviously tired towards the end, and Harry Forster I thought was outstanding as well, and you know all the time he is on the pitch anything can happen.”

A negative piece of news which came out of the game is Crawley midfielder Jay Williams will miss the remainder of the season through suspension after he picked up his 15th booking of the season.

An unhappy Lindsey said: “I think he’s unlucky, I think the referee has targeted him and I think that’s a prime example of that. It’s unfair on the kid.”

The Reds had 71% possession last night and made over two times more passes than Barrow did, but this still frustrated some of the home fans who wanted the ball to go direct when they tried to get a winner.

Lindsey said: “The fans get so disgruntled when we play it short, but we know what we’re doing, we know where the spaces are. The fans want us to sling the ball in the box straight away from a corner, but so do Barrow, that's exactly what Barrow wants us to do.”

After the draw last night, Crawley remain in seventh place with pressure from other clubs behind wo want to make it into the play-offs, but Lindsey has shrugged off any comments that his team are feeling pressured.

He said: “Out of all the teams in and around the play off positions, I think we’re probably the team that are maybe the most calmest, based on the fact that we’re not supposed to be here, we’re supposed to be in the bottom two according to everyone at the start of the season.

“We are ok, we are actually enjoying where we are.”

Crawley have a huge game on the weekend, as they make the short trip to South London to face rivals Sutton United, who are also desperate for points in their efforts to escape the drop.

On the game, Lindsey has said: “I’ve not thought about it yet. I’ll watch our game back in the morning and in the afternoon, I’ll watch loads of Sutton and on Thursday I’ll be prepared to go know exactly what I’m doing.

“There's nothing better than a local derby, with two games to go and we’re in the play offs and they need their points to stay up, it’s a massive game for both clubs.

“So, we’re going to embrace that and enjoy it, play anything like that and we’ll enjoy it.”
