GB Athletes and Paralympian to feature in Chichester Well-being event for young adults with Learning disabilities

On the 29th of May, a series of activities will be taking place for 16 to 35-year-olds with moderate to severe learning disabilities and allow parents to join. The event features a Paralympian talk, exercise, adaptive Jude as well as coping strategies, mindfulness, chair pilates and more.

THINK18 supports young adults with learning disabilities (aged 16-35) in West Sussex. They deliver activities that support friendship, fun, healthy options, independence and improved life opportunitiesThey provide a community for young adults and reduce their social isolation and exclusion. In a statement, they wrote: “With the completion of school or college and during school holidays there is a real absence of safe, supportive socialising activities in West Sussex for young adults with learning disabilities. THINK18 help to fill the gap.”“We are excited to launch a ‘Well being’ day to support them along with Nick Shepherd, from British Judo and Maddie Thompson GB Wheelchair Basketball and other sporting faces we will inspire, teach and practice in our sessions to reinforce their wellbeing.“The halow project' are also joining us with along with their young adults and THINK18’s young adults, it should be a great day.”Tessa Denison is the founder of the charity. She started the charity 5 years ago when her daughter Rosie, who has downs syndrome, became isolated when she left school at 18.

Tessa said: "We would love to create some more wellbeing days, get more young adults involved, encourage sports and practitioners to help and get involved. This is vital to our community and everyone benefits.”

Maddie Thompson is a distinguished Paralympian from Team GB. Her journey spans from London 2012 to Tokyo 2020, with sights set on Paris 2024. She’ll be speaking at the occasion, providing a motivational talk alongside mindfulness practitioner Jassy Denison and Andrew Bowly, Head of Safeguarding, Well-being, and Inclusion for British Judo.
