Top writers at literary festival
Charleston was the meeting place of a remarkable group of progressive individuals, including Virginia Woolf, E M Forster, Maynard Keynes, Roger Fry, Lytton Strachey and T S Eliot.
Spokeswoman Philippa Rowson said: “The Festival was founded in 1989 - after Charleston was preserved and opened to the public - in order to ensure that it remained vibrant and hospitable to new ideas and contemporary creativity. Charleston is now a unique museum with a high-profile festival, a fitting tribute to its original residents, rather than a mere shrine, which is the fate of so many other homes of famous artists.
