A VILLAGE fair promoting the best in local produce was held in Upper Dicker on Saturday.
Among the local food on sale from stalls on the village green were sausages from Wartling, strawberries from Herstmonceux, cider from Middle Farm and cakes made by residents.

There was a barbecue, wine and ale tastings, face painting, jelly eating competition and a mass tug-of-war between two teams, the Dicker Draggers and the Parish Pullers.

The event was organised by the Village Shop, which is hoping to bring in new customers after losing its post office branch earlier this year.

Lauren Norwood, the shop's manager, called the fair a 'great success' and said there were plans to turn it into an annual event.

She said, "It was a day to celebrate local produce and encourage people to buy locally.

"We also want people to use the shop more often because if they don't they will lose the shop just as they lost the post office."
