Man arrested after attempted robbery at village shop near Crawley

Police say the incident happened at the Kwik Mart convenience store in Copthorne Bank, Copthorne, soon after 6pm on Saturday (June 13).
A spokesman said: “It was reported a man had entered the shop and demanded money, but fled the scene empty-handed when the staff member shouted for help.

Hide Ad“A man was detained nearby by members of the public, until officers attended and arrested him.
“Nayib Pailos, 33, a chef, of Copthorne Common, was later charged with assault with intent to commit robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place - a pair of scissors.
“He appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday (June 15) and was remanded in custody to appear before Lewes Crown Court on July 13.”
