Holes appear in Bexhill's roads
Parkhurst Road was victim to the earth below 'settling', making a void just below the tarmac and a hole wide enough and deep enough for Highways Agency area supervisor Ernie Rogers to stand in.
Mr Rogers and Bexhill Highway Inspector Andy Piper were on the scene, and revealed it was the third hole to appear in one morning.

He said some sewage pipes are up to 60ft below the road, and the earth around the pipes sometimes settles, making the road weak.
"It is usually in the summer when the tarmac warms up."
Amherst Road and Courthope Drive had smaller holes.
The police diverted traffic in Parkhurst Road from just before 12.30pm on Monday.
Mr Rogers said repairing the hole would take a couple of days.

The diversion was a blow to motorists who were already finding movement around the streetscape enhancement work in Devonshire Road and Devonshire Square a problem.
