Hastings’ planned shared cycle routes with pedestrians are a safety risk
I was disappointed to read that consideration is again being given to allowing cycling in Alexandra Park by creating shared cycling and walking routes on the existing pathways. I was one of those who wrote to the Observer 3 or 4 years ago when this was first proposed and I had hoped that common sense had prevailed.
As a former community safety manager with Hastings Borough Council I believe that allowing such a proposals to go ahead would create a significant risk to pedestrians due to the limited width of the pathways in particular in the lower end of the park which has become even busier in recent months.
