Two pipers led a poignant Remembrance Sunday parade through the town centre as Hailsham acknowledged its debt to those who have given their lives for their country.
Hundreds lined the streets despite the rain to welcome the parade into the High Street.

Hailsham mayor Cllr Nick Ellwood and the chairman of Wealden District Council, Cllr Chantal Wilson, were among those who laid wreaths ahead of the two minutes'
silence.

Representatives from the police and fire services, the Royal Air Forces Association, the army cadets, Air Training Corps, Eastbourne Territorial Army, Scouts, Guides and Brownies attended.

Rev David Bourne, from St Mary's Church, conducted the service while Mike Weller, chairman of the Hailsham branch of the Royal British Legion, gave the address.

Mr Weller said, "I think the present conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and the media coverage of such conflicts has brought Remembrance Day home to a lot of people.

"It's not only about those who lost their lives in the first and second world wars but also all the recent conflicts, starting with Korea and the Suez through to the present day."
