CONTROVERSIAL proposals to build flats and three- bedroom maisonettes in Seaford have been approved.
The plans for Ellenbank and The Tempest in Cliff Road will anger some nearby residents who feel there is not the infrastructure for further building in the area.

The plans, for Cliff Road Developments Ltd, include a three-storey block of nine two-
bedroom flats and four three-bedroom maisonettes, plus underground parking.

The two properties at the site have already been demolished.

When initially discussed by the planning and highways committee of Seaford Town Council, which is allowed to comment on applications, they rejected the plans on the grounds of overdevelopment, overshadowing and unneighbourly.

But at a meeting of the Planning Applications Committee of Lewes District Council, who make a final decision, members went ahead with recommendations to approve the application.

Homeowners had sent in 17 letters of objection to the plans including concerns over increased parking problems in Cliff Road, loss of trees and loss of privacy.

And recently David Boots, chairman of Residents' Association of Seaford Head (RASH), raised concern over further development in the area, following flooding at one of the Martello Fields.

He said when this happened the area has often been covered in sewerage and the system would not be able to cope with further homes.

At a meeting last Wednesday members agreed with recommendations to approve the plans, subject to a number of conditions.
