Kathryn Hesketh will be visiting Moldova, situated in south west Romania next year and will fly with a team from Mission Direct to work in the village Kamel.
The project will include refurbishing houses, visiting the elderly and infirm and worship
ping with the local Baptist Church.
To help raise funds for the trip a coffee morning, with stalls, a tombola and refreshments, will take place on Saturday between 10am to 12noon at the Clinton Centre in Clinton Place.
She said, "Mission Direct organises trip to various places throughout the world where people may need help. Because of my medical condition up until this year I have not been able to help serve in this way before.
"I felt God was calling me to go and experience working with vulnerable people."
Kathryn has spent 28 years working as a volunteer in residential sites that offer respite care for the physically disabled, young people and those with special needs.
This will be the first time she will travel abroad for such a venture and she is hoping to raise at least £1,000 for the June trip.
She added, "I don't see any difference between me and the young people I look after, apart from they might need a wheelchair to get around in and that makes me feel extra priveleged that I have two legs.
"I'm really nervous about the trip because it's the unknown but I will have my faith in God to guide me."
