JOCKEYS are desperately needed for next week's Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford Lions Donkey Derby and Classic Car Show.
The Bank Holiday Monday event is one of the biggest public attractions in Seaford and is held on the Martello Field every year.

More than 3,000 people attend the fun and games, which includes stalls, refreshments and side shows.

Clem Collins, chairman of fundraising, is appealing for youngsters to take part in the fun by becoming a jockey. He said, "We usually have about ten riders to cover all the races but so far this year only six riders have signed up. We need to have a few more. All jockeys receive a £20 cash gift for taking part."

The event, which has been running for a number of years, is one of the largest annual fundraisers for the Lions and helps to raise around £5,000 for them.

The aim of the Lions is to support others and help the less fortunate in society and money from the day goes towards continuing to achieve this.

Jockeys must have some riding experience and have a riding hat and back protector, be aged between 10 and 16 and weigh under 51kg. Full details can be obtained from www.npslions.co.uk or call 01323 890552. Parental consent is necessary.
