Man accused of sword offence
A SEAFORD man has appeared in court after allegedly walking along the street where he lives while carrying a samurai sword.
David Harshaw, 25, of Broad Street, is alleged to have had the sword in an incident on April 26.
He is charged with possessing an offensive weapon and with using or threatening unlawful violence which would cause someone to fear for their personal safety.
Harshaw did not enter pleas to the charges when he appeared before Lewes magistrates on Wednesday.
The court heard the case could not go ahead until officials had determined whether the defendant is entitled to legal aid.
Magistrates adjourned the case to await a
further hearing later this month.
Harshaw was released on bail on condition he does not contact a witness in the proceedings.
