One way road is a danger, says councillor

A SEAFORD councillor is calling for urgent action to be taken to make a one-way road in the town safer.
Councillor Ralph Taylor says a number of lorries and cars travel the wrong way down Saxon Lane and is concerned this could cause a serious accident or tragedy.
He claims the road markings and signage need updating so it is clear to motorists that they can only travel down the road from the Steyne Road side.
He said, "It's a road used by children on their way to school.
"The road markings are very poor at the top junction near the High Street and only one no entry sign, when there is usually two."
Cllr Taylor, who lives in the road, said no changes had been made to signage or road markings in the 10 years he has been a resident there.
He added that a No Entry sign painted on the road had started to fade.
He said he felt the fact that motorists could park on both sides of the High Street at the top of the lane meant lorry drivers often found it difficult to get past and gave up, deciding instead to travel down Saxon Lane in the wrong direction.
He added, "It makes it very narrow with parking on both sides. I have reported this matter to the town council. This needs looking at urgently. In the last three weeks I have seen three lorries go the wrong way down the lane."
A spokeswoman for the county council said, "The No Entry sign marking the road has faded and is scheduled to be repainted. This should alert motorists to Saxon Lane being one-way only."
