Eastbourne Rovers Athletic Club's Brian Slaughter has just won his fourth Masters title of the year by adding the British Masters Weight Pentathlon to his collection.
The weight pentathlon is a different all-round event in that it normally suits 'the bigger boys.'
It consists of the standard four throws of hammer, shot putt, discus and javelin followed by a heavy hammer.
Brian started the day knowing that if he performed well a medal was a great prospect. Things got off to a great start with a pb in the hammer with 38.90m.
This was then supported by a solid 11.46m shot-putt to give him 1,276 points in total.
The discus and javelin were down on his usual distances with 34.96m and 35.85m before a great pb in the heavy hammer with 13.07m.
This gave him a pb total of 3,074 points ahead of David Maggs from Gateshead on 2728, local rival Mike Bale of Haywards Heath and Clive Howell of Stoke, with others in their wake.
Brian said afterwards, "The other bigger guys are a little put out that a decathlete should come and take titles like this from them.
"However they are normally very good at one throw but I am 'Mr Consistent' across them all."
The other combined event titles this year have been The British Masters (BMAF) Indoor Pentathlon, The Scottish Open Indoor Heptathlon and BMAF Outdoor Pentathlon.
Breaking records along the way he recently broke five league records
for masters events including a 3.22m pole vault first time clearance.
