Eastbourne Borough suffered their 10th Blue Square Premier defeat when they went down 2-0 in a dismal performance away to Rushden & Diamonds this afternoon.
Garry Wilson's men looked to be suffering from an FA Cup hangover as they managed just one shot on target in the first half and that was a long range effort from Ben Austin.
They fell behind in the 33rd minute when Lee Tomlin turned on the edge of
the area and fired an unstoppable shot past Lee Hook.
Allan Tait, recalled to the side after being transfer-listed, saw a shot saved by the keeper after the interval and Neil Jenkins was narrowly off target.
But not a lot worried the home side and the killer goal came in the 55th minute when Lee Hook did well to save Curtis Osano's header, but the ball fell to Michael Rankine who nodded in from a couple of yards.
The win enabled Rushden to become the first team to complete the double over Borough who find themselves in danger of being sucked back into the relegation zone.
There was more bad news from Walton where Eastbourne Town lost 2-1 in the Ryman League Division One South, Liam baitup getting the late Town consolation goal.
The only Eastbourne smiles came from the Oval where Eastbourne United AFC responded to a half-time rollicking from manager Brian Dennis to trounce Worthing United 4-0.
All the goals came in the second half with Brad Manton netting twice, Steve Morris once and sub Lucas Mann once.
United moved into second place in the County league's first division, a point behind leaders Ringmer with four games in hand.
But there was misery at the Beaconsfield where Hailsham conceded three goals in the second half to finish with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Pagham. The only good news around was that Scott French has signed on again for the season.
