Sarah Moore will compete in the English Schools finals in Birmingham in September following her gold medal at the South East Regional finals last weekend.
The Eastbourne Rovers AC star achieved a new personal best score of 4,424 points for her Heptathlon.

She travelled to Reading for two days of hard competition along with other members of the Sussex Combined Events squad led by coach Steve King.

Steve was pleased that both his under-20 Sussex teams for men and women both will now qualify to compete at the English Schools finals
Sarah started her events well with a run of 15.5 in her new event at this level, the 100m hurdles.

She came third in her heat and ran a very solid race. This placed her fourth out of the 10 athletes taking part overall.

She then faced the high jumpin which she has been steruggling due to training on other discilpines. She coped very well in the competition which took place in the heat of the mid-day sun and was thrilled to come equal first by clearing her personal best jump once again of 1.62m.

Next was shot and although her best putt of 9.64 was below her best of 10.01, she came out holding the lead after three events.

The last event of day one was the 200m and Sarah ran a good race with a time of 26.9 secs. At the end of day one, she was in second place overall.

Day two started with long jump and unfortunately once again Sarah reached around 5.50 but was given a no jump - just a fraction over the board. She did reach 5.03 which is well under her best but still hung on to her second position.

Trying to put this disappointment behind her, she went in to the javelin in which threw three good throws all over 30 m and recorded a best of 33.77 - and beat all the other women in this discipline.

Lastly was the 800m, a great challenge for all the girls at the end of two days competing and Sarah was very happy with a new personal best at this race of 2.37.8.

It was a very fast race with the winner coming in at 2.21 but Sarah luckily had done enough to hold on to her lead and she therefore won the competition by 56 points.

Sarah will now continue to train hard with her coach in preparation for September when Sussex travel to Birmingham for the finals.
