No Henin but Bartoli on her way
JUSTINE Henin will not be defending her Eastbourne title at Devonshire Park next month.
The 25-year-old Belgian star announced her early retirement from tennis this week.
However, there is some good news for local tennis fans with the confirmed return of Marion Bartoli, last year's Wimbledon runner-up. She will be hoping to do one better at the International Women's Open from June 14-21.
Bartoli is currently No 11 in the world rankings and No 31 in the singles race. Born in France, the 23-year-old burst onto the scene last summer by reaching the final at Wimbledon defeating a host of top players en route.
In 2006, the right-hander picked up three WTA titles in Auckland, Tokyo and Quebec City.
Bartoli will be making her fifth straight appearance at the International Women's Open with her best performance coming last year.
The Geneva resident defeated No 4 seed Elena Dementieva, in the last eight before losing to Justine Henin, in the semi.
Ticket information is available from the box office on 412 000.
