Schools Jumping Championships at Hickstead
The championships this year will be the first supported by Hurstpierpoint College, where headmaster Tim Manly encourages sport and outdoor activities as counterpoints to academic life.
"Equestrianism, for example, helps young people to grow in personal confidence, act responsibly, identify and address challenges," he says. "It equips them to assess and manage risk, all qualities that are of great value to youngsters not only now but also throughout their lives."
