Plans to convert former Hastings church hall into housing

Developers have put forward proposals to convert a former Old Town church hall into housing.

In an application submitted to Hastings Borough Council, developers are seeking planning permission to convert St Clements Church House in Croft Road into a two-bedroom flat and a three-bedroom maisonette.

As part of the proposed conversion, developers would repair and repaint the building’s existing windows and repair its external brickwork.

In a planning statement, a spokesman for the developer said: “The existing building will be repaired and refreshed, working alongside the local planning authority and in accordance with the conservation officer’s recommendations.

“In recent years planning permission has been granted on several sites situated in the surrounding area. These sites have been made up of various size properties, but generally consist of a sympathetic design, with a modern take on traditional design.

“It is located within the [conservation area] however with minimal external alterations proposed development of this site would be acceptable in principle.

“The site currently has no off-street parking; however the space has been utilised for large public events by St Clements Church as well as providing floorspace for a local dance school for the past 50 years.
