The committee turned down an application from Rye Rector the Revd David Frost for double glazing at the Rectory in Gun Garden. Cllr Ian Potter said: “Double glazing can be timber framed.” Planning chairman Cllr Bernardine Fiddimore said: “We our talking about the most sensitive part of our town.” Mayor Cllr Shaun Rogers said: “UPVC is inappropriate material for that area.” Cllr John Breeds said: “I do have every sympathy as the Rectory is north-east facing and can get very cold in the winter.” Parishioners at St Mary’s Church signed a petition in favour of the UPVC glazing plan. The committee refused the application.
